On September 19, 1995, the Shanghai Golden Card Project made breakthrough progress. With a bank card in hand, one could get cash from any ATM in the city. From then on, having a bank card from the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, Agricultural Bank of China, Bank of China, China Construction Bank or Bank of Communications allows one to access any ATM in the city for a balance inquiry or money withdrawal.
