Zhuang Yong from Shanghai won a gold medal in the women's 100m freestyle event at the 25th Olympic Games in Barcelona in 1992. This was not only China’s first Olympic gold medal won at the Barcelona Games, but also the first Olympic gold medal ever won in Chinese swimming history.
