Zhou Haiying 周海婴

Zhou Haiying (1929-2011) was the son of famous 20th century Chinese writer Lu_Xun and a noted Chinese expert in radio communication. Lu Xun was the pen name of Zhou Shuren.

Life Zhou Haiying was born in Shanghai on September 27, 1929. He was only seven years old when his father Lu Xun died. From 1952 to 1960, Zhou studied in the physics department at Peking University, majoring in radio engineering. Upon graduation, he took work in the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television as a vice ministerial-level employee and expert in radio communication.

“We must rely on our own achievements within our power to win social recognition,” Zhou said.

He lived his life by this creed.

Honors Zhou Haiying was a member of the Eleventh CPPCC National Committee; chairman of the Executive Council of the Shanghai Lu Xun Cultural Development Center; honorary president of the China Lu Xun Research Institute; honorary chairman of the Beijing Lu Xun Memorial Hall, the Shaoxing Lu Xun Memorial Hall, and the Xiamen Lu Xun Memorial Hall; honorary president of the Beijing Lu Xun Middle School and the Shaoxing Lu Xun Middle School, and consultant to the China Lu Xun Research Institute, the Shanghai Lu Xun Memorial Hall, and the Chinese Radio Sports Association.

Death Zhou Haiying died of natural causes in Beijing April 7, 2011, at the age of 81. A funeral service will be held for Zhou on April 11 at the Babaoshan Cemetery in western Beijing, according to the obituary.
