In the mixed doubles trap event at the Barcelona Olympic Games in 1992, Zhang Shan defeated all her male opponents in both the qualifications and the finals with perfect scores to win the gold medal. Not long afterwards, the International Olympic Committee decided to remove this event from the Olympic Program. Although the event was readmitted after 1997, the IOC decided to have the men and women compete in separate events. So, Zhang Shan has become the only female shooter in Olympic history to have defeated her male rivals to win a gold medal.
