Yuanmingyuan (圆明园)

The British and French allied forces rushed to Yuanmingyuan, looting the imperial garden on October 7, 1860.

Located in northwest Beijing, Yuanmingyuan was initially built during the Ming Dynasty. In 1709, Emperor Kangxi gave it as a gift to his fourth son, later Emperor Yongzheng. For more than 150 years, Yuanmingyuan had undergone expansion by Emperor Yongzheng, Emperor Qianlong, Emperor Jiaqing, Emperor Daoguang, and Emperor Xianfeng.
