A Chinese rafting expedition spent four months drifting down the Yangtze River passing through the river's steepest stretches in 1986. The distance traveled was 3,368 kilometers and the drop in altitude was 5,100 meters, which broke the world record of 3,200 meters set by Japanese explorer Naomi Uemura in the Amazon.
