Xi Zhongxun (1913-2002)

Xi Zhongxun (习仲勋) was a former prominent CPC member and state leader. He made great contributions to Chinese revolution and economic construction. Born on October 15, 1913 in Fuping, Shaanxi Province, Xi joined the Communist Youth League in May 1926, and the Communist Party of China (CPC) in 1928. He was one of main founders and leaders of the CPC Shaanxi-Gansu Revolutionary Base.

Main experience after 1949:

1988 vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the 7th National People's Congress (NPC).

1982 member of the Political Bureau the 12th CPC Central Committee and secretariat of the 12th CPC Central Committee.

1980 vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the 5th NPC

1979 governor of Guangdong Province

1978 member of the 11th CPC Central Committee

1959-1962 vice premier of the State Council

1956 member of the 8th CPC Central Committee

1950 minister of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee

Xi died on May 24, 2002 in Beijing at the age of 89. His son, Xi Jinping, is now vice president of China.
