A high-speed train runs into Wuhan Railway Station, in Wuhan, capital of central China's Hubei Province, Dec. 26, 2009.

The Wuhan-Guangzhou high-speed railway has a 350-km-per-hour average speed, boasting the world's fastest train journey.

Travel time between Wuhan, the capital of central China's Hubei Province, and Guangzhou, the capital of south China's Guangdong Province, is cut to only three hours, compared with the previous 10 and a half hours.

Construction commenced in June 2005 as an important part of the Beijing to Guangzhou high-speed line in the China's railway network plan. The route crosses Hubei, Hunan, and Guangdong provinces, with a total of 15 stations, including Xianning, Yueyang, Changsha, Hengyang, Zhuzhou, and Chenzhou. There will be a train departing every three minutes.

The railway had a trial operation on December 9, and started operation on December 26, 2009.
