Wugong (Five Lords) Temple in Haikou is a monument to five officials who had been exiled to HainanLi Deyu in Tang Dynasty (618-907), and Li Gang, Li Guang, Zhao Ding and Hu Quan in Song Dynasty (960-1279). The four Song officials were exiled because they stood for fighting the invading armies of tribal regimes in the north, while the emperor and many of his courtiers stood for truce at the expense of land. Thus, they have been highly revered as heroes. All the five enshrined in the temple had made great contributions in promoting Han culture in Hainan.
