Wu Bin (吴斌)

Wu Bin (吴斌), a bus driver from Hangzhou of Zhejiang Province, has deeply moved the pubic for his heroic act of sacrificing his life to save 24 passengers at imminent danger.

Wu was driving the bus from Wuxi to Hangzhou on the Shanghai-Yichang Highway at noon on May 29 when he was suddenly struck by a chunk of iron that smashed through the windscreen. Although the sheet of metal severely injured Wu, a 76-second surveillance video shows his last behaviors: holding the wheel tight, putting on the parking brake, stopping the bus safety, pulling up the handbrake, turning on the fault-warning lights, and advising the passengers to remain seated before collapsing from his injuries. He asked passengers to dial emergency calls 110 and 120.

Wu was sent to a local military hospital. According to the doctors, Wu's liver was almost smashed to pieces. He ultimately died of injuries from the freak accident on June 1.

Born on March 8, 1965 in Hangzhou, Wu served in the No. 2 Passenger Transport Company of Hangzhou before his death, He had a safe driving record of more than 1 million kilometers, according to his colleague Chen Yibo.

Wu got married with Wang Lizhe 18 years ago. They have a 16-year-old daughter. His parents are past 70 years old.

Wu's heroic deeds have deeply moved the pubic. His body was sent to a local funeral home for cremation under the escort of police vehicles. Thousands of people paid their last respects to him.

During an executive meeting of the provincial government on June 4, Governor Xia Baolong announced that the government has conferred Wu the honorary titles of "model worker" and "revolutionary martyr" to commemorate his acts of selflessness.

Meanwhile, police are investigating the cause of the accident.
