Wendi Deng (邓文迪), a Chinese born American, is ex-wife of the troubled media tycoon Rupert Murdoch.

The woman hogged headlines on July 19, 2011, when she leaped up to slap the head of a protestor, attempting to throw a plate of white shaving foam at her 80-year-old husband in a British Parliament hearing in London.

Her quick and accurate reaction was praised by Tom Watson, a Labor Member of Parliament, as "a very good left hook", won Murdoch positive points. He is being questioned in the phone hacking scandal, a controversy which ended the publication of the best-selling tabloid "News of the World", owned by News Corporation—Murdoch's globalized media empire. Deng was also lauded as a "tiger wife".

Born in Jinan, Shandong Province on December 25, 1968 and raised in Xuzhou, Jiangsu Province, Deng developed a strong interest in playing volleyball in her secondary and middle schools. She enrolled in Guangzhou Medical College in 1985.

In 1987, Deng was tutored in English by two Americans Jake and Joyce Cherry. In 1988, she abandoned her medical study and traveled to the United States to study under the sponsoring of the Cherrys. She studied economics at California State University, Northridge and was smart enough to stay among the top 1% students.

After her graduation, she received a bachelor's degree and continued her MBA study from the Yale School of the Management where she currently serves as an advisor on the board.

She received an internship opportunity from Star TV after her graduation from Yale and it was there she met her future husband Murdoch. She married Murdoch in 1999, less than three weeks after his divorce from his ex- wife Anna Maria Torv. She gave birth to two girls Grace and Chloe, in 2001 and 2005 respectively.

In 2010, she worked as a producer of the film "Snow Flower and the Secret Fan", starring veteran actor Hugh Jackman, actress Li Bingbing and Jun Ji-hyun. The film launched in 2011.

On June 13, 2013, Murdoch filed for divorce from Deng, citing that their marriage had been irretrievably broken.

On November 20, 2013, Deng and Rupert Murdoch reached deal to end their 14-year marriage.
