Wang Yifu participated in six Olympic Games. At the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 1984, when Xu Haifeng won the first Olympic gold medal for China, Wang took a bronze medal in the same event. He returned home empty-handed from the Seoul Games in 1988. Wang won his first Olympic gold medal at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona. He won silver medals at the Atlanta and Sydney Olympic Games in 1996 and 2000. In 2004, Wang won another gold medal in Athens in the men's 10m air pistol event.
