Wang Xia (王侠)

Born in May 1954 in Qingjian County, Shaanxi Province, Wang Xia began her career in December 1971 and joined the Communist Party of China (CPC) in July 1974. She was a postgraduate of the Party School of the Central Committee of CPC.

Wang has successively served in the Yellow River Middle Reaches Management Bureau of the Ministry of Water Resources as vice chief of the Political Division, chief of the Political Division, chief of the Personnel Division, vice director of bureau, director of the bureau, and vice secretary of the bureau’s Leading Party Group. Subsequently, she served as vice secretary of Yan’an City Party Committee, mayor of Yan’an, secretary of Yan’an City Party Committee, member of Shaanxi Provincial Party Standing Committee, secretary of Yan’an City Party Committee, member of Shaanxi Provincial Party Standing Committee, and secretary of the Provincial Party Committee.

Wang is a delegate to the 16th and 17th National Congress of the CPC, an alternate member of the 16th and 17th CPC Central Committee, deputy to the 11th NPC, and secretary of the Leading Party Group of the State Population and Family Planning Commission. On December 31, 2011, she was appointed as minister of the State Population and Family Planning Commission.
