Wang Junxia (王军霞)

Wang Junxia (王军霞) won a gold medal in the women's 5,000-m race and a silver medal in the women's 10,000-m race at the Atlanta Olympic Games on July 28, 1996 to become China's first athlete to win two medals in the track events at the same Olympic Games. Wang was reputed as "Oriental Deer.”

Born in January 19, 1973 in a farmer family in Jiaohe, Jilin Province, Wang started long-distance run training in Dalian Spare-time Sports School in 1988. She enrolled into the Liaoning Provincial Track & Field Team in 1991 and the National Track & Field Team in 1995. Her coach was Ma Junren,

Wang stopped training after the 1996 Olympics due to injuries and worked as a business partner with a fitness equipment factory in Xuzhou, Jiangsu Province, for developing new sports products. She studied law at Liaoning University for a period of time before getting married in May 1997. She joined the National Team for intensified training seven months later in preparation for the 1998 Asian Games. She enrolled into the Colorado State University, USA, in September 1998 for further studies. Currently she spends most of her time in participating in the promotion of national fitness campaigns.

In 1992, she won gold medal in 10,000m in World Youth Championships. In 1993, she won gold medal in 10,000m in Stuttgart World Championships In 1993, she won gold medal in Spain World Cup Marathon. In 1993, she won gold medals in 3,000m and 10,000m in the National Games, with both setting new world records. - In 1994, she won gold medal in 10,000m in Hiroshima Asian Games. In 1994, she won gold medal in Beijing International Marathon. In 1995 she won gold medals in 5,000m and 10,000m in Jakarta Asian Championships. In 1996, she won gold medals in 5,000m and 10,000m in Atlanta Olympic Games.
