The world-renowned Three Pagodas of Dali stand on Cangshan Mountain overlooking Erhai Lake, and right in front of the former Congsheng Temple. They have been collectively listed as a key cultural relic preservation site by the State Council.
The tallest of the three, the Qianxun Pagoda, is 69.13 tall. It was built more than 1,000 years ago during the Tang Dynasty (618-907). The two smaller ones are 42.19 m tall. They were built in the Five Dynasties (907-960). More than 600 rare relics of the kingdoms of Nanzhao and Dali were discovered in the three pagodas during the 1978 reconstruction.
