The late spring chill (倒春寒dào chūn hái)

The late spring chill refers to the capricious weather in the late spring, in which the steady temperature rise may be interrupted by a sudden cold front, accompanied by strong winds and freezing rain. The coldness or dào chūn hái (倒春寒) is usually devastating to plants and crops.

The late spring chill often happens in April or May when a sudden cold anticyclone hijacks spring’s warmth, abruptly halting it, and people feel hoodwinked by Mother Nature.
