On October 25, 1924, Feng Yuxiang invited Dr. Sun Yat-sen to Beijing to attend a meeting with the purpose of creating a formal government. Dr. Sun Yat-sen accepted the invitation on November 4 and released his "Statement on My Departure for the North" on November 10. The statement reiterated the necessity to overthrow the warlords and the imperialists they relied on, and the necessity to abolish all unequal treaties. He said, "The fate of the people depends on their self-determination. If our Party (KMT) can gain people's support, the independence, freedom and unification of China will definitely be realized through struggles."
