1985: First Chinese solar station was built and began to generate electricity in Gansu Province

On October 8, 1985, China's first solar station, built with Japanese assistance, began converting solar energy into electricity in Yuanzi Township, Yuzhong County, Gansu Province.

The solar photovoltaic device was composed of more than 224 pieces, including polycrystalline silicon photoelectric cell unit, frame, accumulator battery, DC-AC converter and power supply control system. With a power rating of 10 kilowatts, it could supply electricity for lighting to more than 130 farmer households and 14 organizations. Through the polycrystalline silicon photoelectric cell panel, it could convert solar energy into electricity that was stored in the accumulator battery. Even with six to seven cloudy days in a row, the device could still supply electricity.
