Shanghai Stadium

Built in 1997, Shanghai Stadium can accommodate 80,000 spectators. It is located southwest of the Tianyao Road Bridge and north of the Zhongshan South Road, and neighbors the Shanghai Swimming Pool. It is a large sports complex based on a new design and covers an area of 190,000 square meters. Its ground surface is circular with a diameter of 300 meters and the building is shaped like a saddle. The stands are roofed for protection from rain or sunshine. The display halls south of the stadium can be used for various kinds of meetings and discussions, news briefings, and political, economic and cultural activities. It also has comprehensive facilities, including a hotel, an entertainment venue and a shopping mall. China's 8th National Games were held in this complex.
