Qiantang River tides

Dozens of visitors were swept away by the water as they appreciated the tides of the Qiantang River in Xiaoshan City of Zhejiang, resulting in 19 confirmed dead and 40 missing.

On the noon of October 3, 1993, some visitors adventured to an unapproved visiting spot on the dam to get a better view of the tides of Qiantang River. Unfortunately, some were whirled away by the precipitate tides while others were dashed against the nearby rocks. By 5 pm of October 4, 19 were confirmed dead, 27 were hospitalized, and 40 were still missing.
