Pei Wenzhong

Pei Wenzhong (Chinese:裴文中) was born in Fengnan County, Hebei Province on January 19, 1904.

Pei graduated from the Geology Department of Peking University in 1927 and got a PhD degree from the University of Paris in 1937.

During the excavations of Peking Man Site in Zhoukoudian, Pei dug out the first skull in 1929. This discovery had great importance to the worldwide anthropological research and Pei became the founding father of Chinese Paleolithic archaeology.
