From October 18 to 22 of 1910, the first National Games initiated by the Shanghai YMCA were held in Nanjing. The first National Games consisted of four events: track and field, football, tennis, and basketball. A total of 140 athletes from northern China, southern China, Shanghai and Wuning (Suzhou and Nanjing) participated. In 1924, the China National Amateur Athletic Federation was founded in Nanjing and October 18 was the date set to commemorate its foundation. By 1948, China had already hosted the National Games seven times.
