The Mount Lianhua Scenic Spot is located in the eastern suburbs of Panyu City, 20 km from downtown Guangzhou. On its summit stand the Flower Pagoda which was built in 1612, and the Flower City, a military post built in 1664. A gilded statue of the Goddess of Mercy overlooking the sea towers 40.88 m and cast with 120 tons of bronze. It is the tallest of its kind in the world.
