Also known as Wuguan and Fangwen, Lu You (Chinese: 陆游) was born on Nov. 13, 1125, in Shanyin (present day Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province) in southern China. The north had been conquered by the Nuzhen (Jurchen), who threatened to invade the Southern Song regime for Lu's life. Known for his patriotism, Lu wrote more than 10,000 poems, most of which called for the reconquest of the north.

Lu You died on January 26, 1210.
