She was a classmate of Ye Mengyuan and Wang Linjia, the two 16-year-olds who were also killed in the accident. Liu was found in her seat in a critical condition and was rushed to San Francisco General Hospital, where she died from traumatic head injuries on July 12, 2013.

A total of 141 Chinese, out of the 291 passengers, were onboard when the plane crashed while landing. The three teenage victims were among the 35 students and faculty from Jiangshan Middle School, en route to an intensive English summer camp.

A group sent from the United States arrived at the headquarters of Asiana Airlines in Seoul, on July 29, 2013, for a 10-day investigation.

According to the Sing Tao USA, the three victims’ families hired three attorneys, including, a Chinese America, from Kreindler & Kreindler LLP for the air crash litigation.
