Liu Xiaobo

Liu Xiaobo (刘哮波)

Liu Xiaobo (刘哮波) is a Chinese Taekwondo athlete who currently ranks number one in the national men's Taekwondo competition. He obtained bronze in the Men's 84+kg weight class during the 2006 Iran Taekwondo Open Championships. In 2008, Liu became the first athlete on the Chinese male Taekwondo team to win the gold medal at the Asian Taekwondo Championships.

Born on January 16, 1984 in Beijing, Liu started to study Taekwondo at 17. Before that, he was an athletically gifted student, more specifically in the track and field areas.

Although he started practicing Taekwondo quite late, he worked extremely hard. His time on the badminton team taught him speed as well as agility, and being on the weight lifting team showed him how to increase his muscle strength. Liu has come a long way since then and he currently ranks number one in the national men's Taekwondo competition. His next goal will be to make a stand at the 2012 London Olympics.
