Li (礼Book of Rites), or Li ji, is one of the Confucian classics. It is a collection of expounds on rites before the Qin Dynasty, compiled in the Western Han. It’s a good reference book for the study of ancient Chinese society, Confucian doctrines, and social institutions. Most of the records were passed down by the students of Confucius and their students and followers.

Originally, there were 49 chapters, including Da xue and Zhong yong, which later became independent and were listed, together with Lun yu and Meng zi, as the “Four Books.”
