Li Shuangjiang
Li Shuangjiang (李双江) is a famous Chinese tenor, dean of the Msic Department of the People's Liberation Army Academy of Arts, and member of Chinese Musicians Association.
Born in Harbin in 1939, Li was enrolled to vocal music school of Central Conservatory of Music. In 1963 he was a solo actor of Cultural Workgroup in Xinjiang Military District of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA). In 1973 he was a solo actor of the Song-and-Dance Troupe of the General Political Department of PLA. And then ranked as a civilian general, he taught in the vocal music school of PLA Art Academy.
Li's representative works include "Red Star Lights My Way to the Battlefield", "Riding a Horse with Gun to Walk Throughout the World", "Ode to Beijing", "Boatmen's Labor Songs", "Goodbye, Mother!", "I Love Wutzu Mountain, I Love Wanquan River" and so on. His famous publication is "The Collected Works of Li Shuangjiang". He was given the Lifetime Achievements Award by Chinese American Association.
On Sept. 8, 2011, the high-ranking military singer apologized to a couple of victims, who had been attacked by his 15-year-old son. His son was later sent to a government correctional facility for one year.
On Mar. 7, 2013, judicial authorities formally approved the arrests of suspects involved in a gang rape, including the son of Li Shuangjiang. The Beijing Municipal People's Procuratorate did not release detailed information on the suspects, nor Li's full name, as he is a minor.
