Lei Zhengfu
Lei Zhengfu (雷政富), a former secretary of Chongqing Municipality's Beibei District Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), who was investigated following a sex video scandal, stood trial on June 19, 2013 in a municipality's court. On June 28, 2013, he was sentenced to 13 years in jail for receiving bribery of more than 3.16 million yuan (US$0.51 million) by the Chongqing Municipality First Intermediate People's Court.
Born in July 1958 in Changshou District, Chongqing Municipality, Lei began his career in September 1976.
After investigations conducted by the departments of the Chongqing Municipality Commission for Inspecting Discipline, it was proven that Lei had appeared in a sex video that was posted online on November 2012. He was subsequently removed from his official post and detained by the police on Feb. 1, 2013, and was expelled from the CPC in May.
Lei is also accused of receiving bribery of more than 3.16 million yuan (US$0.51 million), according to Xinhua News Agency.
Lei's work experience and involvement in the sex video scandal
From September 1976 to September 1979, Lei was a teacher at the Changshou County's Chengtuo Central School, Sichuan Province.
From September 1979 to August 1981, he studied at the Changshou Normal School, Sichuan Province.
From August 1981 to December 1985, he was a government employee of the Changshou County's Cultural and Education Bureau, Sichuan Province.
From December 1985 to December 1989, he served as secretary and vice director in the Office of Changshou County Party Committee, Sichuan Province. He also enrolled at the Sichuan University in April 1984, majoring in Party and government affairs management
From December 1989 to February 1993, he was a member of the Changshou County Party Standing Committee and director of the county's Publicity Department.
From February 1993 to March 1995, he was vice head of the Changshou County Government.
From March 1995 to May 1997, he was vice mayor of the city of Jiangjin, Sichuan Province. From April 1994 to January 1997, he studied at the Correspondence School under the Party School of the Central Committee of the CPC, majoring in business management.
From May 1997 to June 1999, he was vice mayor of the city of Jiangjin under the Chongqing Municipality.
From June 1999 to January 2000, he was vice secretary of the Dianjiang County Party Committee, secretary of the Leading Party Members' Group of the Dianjiang County Government, vice head of Dianjiang County, and acting head of Dianjiang County, under the Chongqing Municipality.
From January 2000 to December 2002, he was vice secretary of the Dianjiang County Party Committee, secretary of the Leading Party Members' Group of the Dianjiang County Government, and head of Dianjiang County, under the Chongqing Municipality.
From December 2002 to December 2006, he was secretary of the Dianjiang County Party Committee, under the Chongqing Municipality.
From December 2006 to March 2007, he was vice secretary of the Jiulongpo District Committee of the Chongqing Municipality.
From March 2007 to June 2010, he was vice secretary of the Beibei District Committee, and head of the Beibei District, under the Chongqing Municipality.
From June 2010 to November 2012, he was secretary of the Beibei District Committee of the Chongqing Municipality.
On Nov. 23, 2012, he was removed from the position of secretary of the Beibei District Committee – a decision taken by the Chongqing Municipality Party Committee.
On Jan. 24, 2013, the Chongqing Municipality People's Procuratorate started investigating Lei Zhengfu after he was suspected of accepting bribes.
On Feb. 1, 2013, the police detained Lei, and on Feb. 6, he was arrested.
In May 2013, the Chongqing Municipality Commission for Discipline Inspection punished Lei Zhengfu and 20 other Party members and officials that were involved in sex video's incidents - a breach of discipline. Lei was expelled from the Party and dismissed from public offices. The First Branch of the Chongqing Municipal People's Procuratorate started the prosecution of Lei Zhengfu.
On June 19, 2013, the Chongqing Municipality First Intermediate People's Court held hearings on Lei Zhengfu's bribery case.
