Jiayin Dinosaur National Geological Park

Covering an area of 38.44 square kilometers, Jiayin Dinosaur National Geological Park lies on the right bank of Heilongjiang River, Jiayin County, Yichun City, Heilongjiang Province. Previously the site of Longgu Mountain in Jiayin County, it was established as Dinosaur National Geological Park by virtue of approval granted by the Review Committee of National Geopark in 2001.

It is the very place where dinosaur fossils were first discovered and unearthed in China. In 1902, a Russian paleontologist found the dinosaur fossils here, and assembled those unearthed fossils into an integrated dinosaur skeleton of 4.5 meters high and 8 meters long. It was named Mandschurosaurus amurensis, and displayed in Former Soviet Union Geological Museum in St. Petersburg. It was the first Chinese dinosaur skeleton stranded in the foreign country, and it is called First Dinosaur of the Divine Land

Since 1977, Chinese geologists have found a large number of dinosaur fossils and other animal fossils such as fish, birds, turtles, lizards, alligators and so many angiosperm fossils as up to hundreds of genres. Archaeological studies proved that the dinosaur fossils unearthed here come under the sub-family of flathead Hadrosauridae, a new species in the dinosaur family. It is one of the last dinosaurs living on earth 6500,0000 years ago and it is the typical grand hadrosauridae of the late Cretaceous Period in the world as well.
