Hani Rice Terraces

Hani Rice Terraces (哈尼梯田) is a water-filled rice paddy field in Yuanyang County in Honghe Prefecture, Yunnan Province.

The 13,190-hectare terrace is surrounded by mountains, atop which sit forests. The terraces themselves are stockaded along with the villages on the hillsides. Below the fields is the Honghe water system, which lies at the foot of the hills.

The property was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site on June 22, 2013. According to UNESCO, the property was selected for its fascinating landscape and unique agricultural and religious traditions.
