Guo Wenjun

Guo Wenjun (郭文珺) is a Chinese female sports shooter who claimed her first Olympic gold medal in the 10-meter air pistol in Beijing in 2008, and successfully defended her title four years later in London.

In the 2012 London Games, she trumped French rival Celine Goberville with a 10.8-point final shot at the Royal Artillery Barracks, London, reversing the match at the last moment after Goberville had built a lead in the previous nine consecutive rounds.

Born in 1984, Xi’an, capital of Shaanxi Province, Guo was admitted to Xi’an Army Sports School in 1997 for shooting. Without many outstanding achievements, she discontinued her training in 2003 and began working as a shop assistant in a sportswear chain store. Yet when realizing the life of a saleswoman wasn’t easier than as shooting athlete, she returned to her training.

Guo started to shine at the European leg of the 2008 International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF) World Cup where she claimed three out of four gold medals in the competition.

Guo is married with a daughter.
