Guo Shuang (郭爽)is a Chinese professional track cyclist, and won a bronze medal in women’s track cycling sprint at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.

Guo was born in Inner Mongolia on February 26, 1986. Her career as a cyclist seemed to start when she learned how to ride a bicycle at the age of 13. She proved to possess great talent in cycling.

She was recruited onto the national youth team in 2001 and began training at the Asia Cycling Center.

Her outstanding cycling performance in the national teenage competition won her an opportunity to study at the World Cycling Center in Switzerland in 2002, specializing in sprint.

Guo has won women’s sprint gold medals six consecutive times in the teenage group at the World Cycling Competition.

Her coach Mo Leilong has coached many world champions, and speaks very highly of Guo, “she is a clever girl, and good in personality and perception. Most importantly, she is very diligent. She is my best student.”

From 2005, Guo started competing in adult races. She won the silver medal at the World Cup, and a silver medal in the 500m time trial and gold medal in sprint at the 10th national games.

Guo won two bronze medals at the 2006 UCI Track Cycling World Championships, in Sprint and Keirin, and two silver medals at the 2007 UCI Track Cycling World Championships, again in Sprint and Keirin.

Guo had become the most competitive power to chase the cycling medals at Olympic Games for China.

Guo had an eventful semi-final in the sprint at the 2008 Summer Olympics, and won a bronze medal.

"I take the Olympic experience as a great fortune, which will make me steadier. Cycling needs more than speed," Guo said.

At the 2009 UCI Track Cycling World Championships, Guo was the first Chinese national to win the Champion in Keirin in the event's history.
