First large-scale high flux atomic reactor

From Wiki China org cn

The first large-scale high flux atomic reactor, designed and built by the Southwest Reactor Engineering Design Institute of the Ministry of No. 2 Mechanical Industry, started operation on February 9, 1981.

The reactor has heat power of 125,000 kw with maximize flux capacity of 62,000 billion neutrons per square cm per second.

The reactor for experimental research has powerful irradiation. It was built with all necessary technical experimental means and facilities to conduct engineering research of reactors. It has multiple functions – not only able to produce multiple radioactive isotopes and toroidal elements, but also to be used for activation analyses of microelements and the research and production of monocrystalline silicon neutron transmutation. It has more than 50,000 pieces of main and supporting equipment, all made in China.
