Feng Zhe wins the men's parallel bars gold medal in the London Olympic Games.

Feng Zhe (冯喆) is a Chinese gymnast who excels on the parallel bars. He won the men's team title and men's parallel bars gold medal in the 2012 London Olympic Games.

Born in Sichuan Province on November 19, 1987, he has won the World Cup and World Championships many times.

He began receiving special training at the Children's Athletic Training School of Chengdu City in 1994 and then joined the Sichuan provincial gymnastics team in 1999. He was recruited to the national team in 2004.

Currently among the world’s elite on parallel bars, he is one of the leading figures in China's gymnastics team, and is one of the favorites to take gold at this year's London Olympic Games.

Feng's career has not always been so stellar. In 2002, he was called up to the national team only to be dropped when he failed to keep with training. Despite not being one of China’s so-called "Diamond Generation" who went to the Beijing Olympics, he has gained top honors since 2008. He won gold in the parallel bars at the 2008 Artistic Gymnastics World Cup Final for the first time; in 2010, he was also the gold medalist at both the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships and the Guangzhou Asian Games.

According to Feng Xiaolin, Feng Zhe's first coach, Feng was something of a naughty child until he discovered gymnastics.

At the beginning, Feng especially enjoyed doing somersaults, although he did not imagine that it would take more than ten years of training to perfect such skills.

Handsome and strong, Feng is also nicknamed "the king of humor who does the best somersault." He is also a self-deprecating, modest athlete who believes in the virtue of hard work.

"I'm not smart," he said. "I'm even stupid in the field of gymnastics, but my coach told me that 'hard work can make up for lack of intelligence' and I believe that."
