On Nov. 18, 1981, 71-year-old Chinese sociologist and anthropologist Fei Xiaotong accepted the Huxley Memorial Medal of the Royal Anthropological Institute of Great Britain and Ireland at the London School of Economics where he studied 45 years ago. Fei then delivered a speech on Jiangcun Village, which was commonly praised by his peers. Fei's teacher, Raymond Firth, who was over 80 years old himself, said that the lecture showed that Fei had reached a new high in the research of sociology and anthropology and the contributions that Chinese anthropologists had made to the world.

The Huxley Memorial Medal was established in 1900 in memory of Thomas Henry Huxley, the author of "Evolution and Ethics."
