Located in the southwest of Kunming, Dianchi Lake (滇池) covers an area of 294 sq km and has an average depth of 4.4 m. It is the largest lake in Yunnan Province and the sixth largest freshwater lake in China.

Dianchi Lake is surrounded by mountains. Famous tourist attractions around the lake include Yunnan Village, Yunnan National Museum, Huating Temple of Western Hill, Taihua Temple, Trinity Pavilion, Dragon Gate, Grand View Pavilion, Jinning Panlong Temple, and Zhenghe Park.
