The Chinese Museum of Women and Children, the first of its kind in China, opened to the public yesterday in Beijing.

The museum covers an area of 35,000 square meters and comprises 11 exhibition halls containing more than 30,000 exhibits depicting ancient, modern and contemporary women, celebrating international friendship and women's art, and showing changes and contrasts through the ages in women's apparel. Museum exhibits also include children in ancient, modern and contemporary times, their toys and pastimes.

ACWF President Chen Zhili, Head of the National Museum of China Wang Wenzhang, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Beijing Committee Liang Wei and Member of the Secretariat of the ACWF and Head of the Chinese Museum of Women and Children Zhao Donghua gave speeches.

State Councilor Liu Yandong, Vice-Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and chairperson of the Central Committee of the China Association for Promoting Democracy Yan Junqi, Vice-Chairperson of the 11th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and First Vice-Chairwoman of the Central Committee of the China Democratic League Zhang Rongming, Vice-Chairperson of the 11th National Committee of the CPPCC and Vice-Chairperson of the Central Committee of the Jiu San (Sept. 3) Society Wang Zhizhen and former ACWF President Gu Xiulian attended the museum ribbon-cutting ceremony.
