On September 29, 1957, China's first planetarium was built in Beijing. The construction of the planetarium started in the autumn of 1955 with the help of experts from the German Democratic Republic. The planetarium has a celestial phenomena hall, an exhibition hall, a speech hall, a small astronomical observatory and a small weather observatory.
