The State Scientific and Technological Award, China's highest science honor, was established in 2000.

Gu Chaohao, a mathematician, and space scientist Sun Jiadong won China's 2009 State Top Scientific and Technological Award. Chinese President Hu Jintao presented the certificates to the scientists at the Great Hall of the People in downtown Beijing on January 11, 2010.
