Cheng Fei (程菲)

Cheng Fei (程菲) is a top gymnast of the Chinese national team. She won the Olympic champions in women's floor exercise, horse-vaulting, and balance beam. A severe injury in the recent floor exercise training will probably make her miss the London Olympic Games this summer.

Born on May 29, 1988 in Huangshi City, Hubei Province, Cheng started gymnastics training at the age of four. She entered the Wuhan Sports School at the age of seven. In 2003 she got a chance to attend the Athens Olympic Games on behalf of the Chinese national team. After the 38th World Gymnastics Championships in 2005, the International Gymnastics Federation named a highly difficult horse-vaulting movement of hers as "Cheng Fei Jump”. Cheng became the second Chinese female gymnast after Yang Bo whose name had been used for a gymnastic movement.

Cheng has won a total of nine gold medals in three World Championships, three World Cup finals, and two Olympic Games, ranking first in the number of gold medals among Chinese female gymnasts.

During the floor exercise training on June 14, 2012, Cheng Fei sustained a severe injury - tendon rupture. She was immediately sent to the Third Hospital affiliated to Peking University Third Hospital. The surgery went smooth, but she will probably miss the London Olympics this summer, according to her coach.
