On September 16, 1989, completion of a major refurbishment restored the charm of Dunhuang Crescent Lake (敦煌月牙泉) after two decades of depredations. The Crescent Lake, 5 km north of Dunhuang City in Gansu Province, is surrounded by desert. It has survived millennia of sandstorms and is regarded as a natural miracle. But the famous beauty spot lost its past luster due to vandalism during "Cultural Revolution" and subsequent neglect. (More...)
