1950: China and Finland established diplomatic relations.

1970: Construction of the Tanzam Railway (TAZARA) commenced.

2000: A joint cooperative contract for an 800,000-ton ethylene project was signed. With a total investment of US$4.05 billion, the petrochemical project jointly operated by CNOOC and the Royal Dutch/Shell Group was not only the largest petrochemical Sino-foreign project for China, but also the largest project for the Shell group in its more-than-100-year history since establishment.

2000: China's Central Nationalities Orchestra held its first concert at the Theater of the Champs-Élysées in Paris, lifting the curtain on the Paris-China Culture Season. This was China's first large-scale cultural exchange activity held in France.

2013: A jeep crashed into a crowd of people and caught fire in front of the Tian'anmen Rostrum in downtown Beijing, killing five people and injuring another 40.
