1921: Yan Fu, nowadays considered a famous Chinese idealistic torchbearer, died.

1966: China successfully launched its first nuclear missile.

1997: The International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR) was signed by Qin Huasun, Chinese permanent representative to the United Nations, on behalf of the People's Republic of China, in New York, at the UN's headquarters.

1997: The 1st World Integrative Medicine Congress opened at the Beijing International Conference Center. Experiences on the combination of Chinese traditional and Western medicines in the fields of theoretical, clinical, educational and policy management were exchanged at the conference.

2002: The Long March 4B rocket successfully launched the Zi Yuan 2 (ZY-2) satellite from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center. This was the second remote sensing satellite developed by China.
