1860: The Qing government of China and France signed the unequal Convention of Peking.

1971: The 26th United Nations General Assembly passed Resolution 2758 with an overwhelming majority of votes and restored all the lawful rights of the People's Republic of China in the UN and expelled the representatives of the Taiwan authorities from the United Nations and all its affiliated agencies.

1987: The Thirteenth National Congress of the Communist Party of China was convened in Beijing.
