1941: Jiefang Daily started publication.

1989: Deng Xiaoping met with visiting Soviet Union leader Mikhail Gorbachev. Gorbachev's visit marked the normalization of the relations between China and the Soviet Union, and the restoration of relations between the two Communist Parties.
