1949: Chiang Kai-shek resigns as president of the Republic of China. Vice-President Li Zongren takes over as acting president.
1991: The Zhou Peiyuan Prize is established, the first prize awarded to people or units with outstanding performance in the application, development and management of imported instruments and equipments.
1996: Beijing West Railway Station begins operations.
