1978: After extensive investigation, the Yangtze River Valley Planning Office verified that the origin of the Yangtze River was not on the south side of the Bayankala Mountains, but at the Tuotuo River. The official length of the river was extended from 5,800 km to 6,300 km.
1982: The CPC Central Committee and the State Council launched institutional reform.
1988: Chiang Ching-kuo died in Taipei.
1989: The List of Wild Animals Under State Protection was released.
