1895: Sun Yat-sen set up the Revive China Society.
1937: Kuomintang agreed to a united front with the Communist Party of China to fight Japanese aggression. The decision brought to an end a civil war that had lasted 10 years.
1972: US president Richard Nixon arrived in China.
