Pingyao Ancient City

1877: Birthday of prominent scholar Wang Guowei.

1982: Closing of the 9th Asian Games which saw the beginning of Chinese dominance in the medals table.

1997: Pingyao Ancient City was listed as a World Cultural Relics Site by UNESCO.

2002: China successfully won the right to host the World Exposition 2010 at the 132nd General Assembly of International Bureau of Exhibitions.
